Saturday 6th – Sunday 7th July 2019
“A fantastic weekend of nautical fun and frolics.
See barges, smacks and other traditional boats at the head of the Creek. Plus nautical displays, stalls, food and drinks, as well as live music all on the Town Quay and the Front Brents.”
Whitstable Maritime’s historic 1907 oyster yawl Gamecock is appearing at the Faversham Nautical Festival on the weekend of 6th – 7th July 2019 – her first outing of the season, having over-wintered at Iron Wharf.
Gamecock is currently undergoing extensive restoration and is the only Whitstable Oyster Yawl registered as a National Historic Vessel and still in her original working layout.
Volunteer coordinator, Liz Bryant, says a small team of volunteers will be nursing Gamecock up river from her winter mud berth at Iron Wharf to join the other traditional boats at the head of the Creek. Liz, and other volunteers from Whitstable Maritime will be on hand over the weekend, so if you are looking for a great day out, plus an insight into the life and times, and challenges, of restoring this historic working vessel, we will be delighted to welcome you!
