It is with a sad and heavy heart that we share the recent passing of Peter Kalopsidiotis. An active member of Whitstable Maritime, Peter, the Vice-Chair responsible for the Gamecock restoration project, was frequently found under her hull removing, replacing or repairing parts.
Whilst a volunteer himself, Peter helped lead and guide other restoration volunteers and assisted with materials purchase such as visits to local sawmills sourcing oak, larch and pine. He was instrumental in running an extensive Trunnel Programme which involved designing, making and stress-testing them – with fascinating results; Trunnels beat metal fittings!
A keen advocate of ‘Money for Old Rope’ – it was amazing what Peter could produce from Gamecock’s old rigging. With a background in rigging both in the music industry and theatre, Peter would regularly produce mats, fenders, coasters, pot hangers – you name it!
More details will follow regarding the memorial service – until then, stop the clock for a few minutes as our world is a little greyer than before. Peter was a top bloke, he will be missed.
