Whitstable Maritime is committed to protecting and celebrating our unique coastal environment. Through partnerships with organisations such as Kent Wildlife Trust and the Marine Conservation Society, we aim to broaden public awareness of the vital role our shoreline, marine habitats and wildlife play in sustaining a healthy ecosystem.
Our 5km Coastal Trail encourages people to explore Whitstable’s natural shoreline while learning about its environmental significance. The route highlights key habitats, heritage features and conservation points of interest, helping walkers understand how the coast is shaped by tides, wildlife and human activity. The trail supports our mission to make environmental learning accessible, enjoyable and rooted in real places.
We support Kent Wildlife Trust’s intern projects, which have included the Dolphin Watch, and developed an education pack for key stage 2 & 3 on oysters and their importance locally. Our volunteers regularly take part in the Great British Beach Clean, working alongside community groups to remove litter, record data, and highlight the impact of pollution on coastal habitats.
We also support Wild About Whitstable as they deliver guided nature walks that help residents and visitors connect with the shoreline, learn about local flora and fauna and understand how small actions can make a big environmental difference.
Together, these initiatives strengthen community engagement, protect vulnerable habitats and inspire people of all ages to care for Whitstable’s natural heritage.
